Peggy Nye Troy, R.N., M.S.N., Nurs '74

Peggy Troy has traveled full circle in her career — from being a nurse intern at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin 30 years ago to her current role as president and chief executive officer of Children's Hospital and Health System in Milwaukee. In between, Peggy provided nursing and administrative leadership at Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas, and was chief operating officer and chief executive officer of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis, Tenn.

"My first question has always been 'What would I want for my own children?' " Peggy says. "Since I was first at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin 30 years ago, it has become one of the leading pediatric medical centers in the country. Children's Hospital and Health System is unique among children's hospitals because no other hospital provides the depth and breadth of community-based services we provide. As we take a more integrated approach to providing our services, our vision is that we can help make Wisconsin children the healthiest kids in the nation."

Peggy has received much recognition for her health care service and leadership and had governor appointments to the Texas health coordinating council and Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency Board. She is part of the United Way campaign cabinet, a member of the Greater Milwaukee Committee and on the board of directors for the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce. She also has been involved with developing community clinics in low-income neighborhoods, immunization and dental initiatives, mental health collaboration, and preventing child abuse.

"Marquette teaches students to Be The Difference through excellence, faith, leadership and service. I don't think my career would have taken the path it did if these values weren't part of what I had learned at Marquette," she says. "I'm a big believer in servant-leadership. It's about creating positive change."
