School of Dentistry Award Recipients
OUTSTANDING DENTAL SERVICE AWARD
Timothy J. Brown, D.D.S., Dent '69
Neenah, Wis.
Success is the pursuit of worthy goals for Tim. And his goals are indeed worthy.
鈥淧ersonally, my goals are based on what I feel is most important in my life: faith, family and work,鈥 says Tim. 鈥淭hey are all intertwined.鈥
He credits his parents, his parochial education in grade school and high school, and the Jesuit teachers at 蜜桃影像 for contributing to his life of faith and service. Marquette鈥檚 dental school provided him with the didactic and clinical skills to succeed in private practice and in volunteerism.
In 2002 troubled that more than 25,000 people in Outagamie, Calumet and Winnebago counties could not afford dental care, Tim helped to found the Tri-County Community Dental Clinic. The volunteer dental clinic in Appleton, Wis., provides quality oral health care services to the area鈥檚 low-income populations. Tim was the clinic鈥檚 first president and still volunteers there.
But his commitment to caring for the underserved is not limited by geography. For 25 years he has been involved with dental mission work in Haiti and other countries. In 2012 he co-founded an eight-chair dental clinic in Hinche, Haiti. In addition to co-leading teams to Haiti twice a year, he is very involved in soliciting funds and dental equipment and supplies for the Hinche Dental project.
Tim, who specializes in restorative dentistry, started his practice in 1972 after serving in the Army. Today, the Brown Family Dentistry practice includes his sons Tip and Tyler, and daughter-in-law Dawn 鈥 all dentists.
Tim is also the chairman of the Living Our Faith in Haiti committee in his home parish, St. Margaret Mary鈥檚 in Neenah, Wis. The parish now twins with St. Joseph鈥檚 parish in Thomonde, Haiti.
Fun Facts:
Someone (past or present) with whom you'd like to have dinner: Pope Francis
Marquette faculty or staff member who had an impact on you, and how: Dr. Del Nachazel. Dr. Del was an excellent practitioner and teacher. He shared his wonderful balance of faith (service to others), work (in excellence) and importance of family.
One of your favorite Marquette memories: Without a doubt, the best memories were and are the long-term friendships with fellow Marquette students and graduates (from 1963鈥損resent). This includes the past and present Marquette dental students of whom I have the honor of precepting and interacting with at the Tri-County Community Dental Clinic in Appleton.
Marquette legacy: I also have a sister, Sue, and brother, Tom, who are graduates. I am hoping that my grandson will attend Marquette School of Dentistry in the future.
What this 蜜桃影像 Alumni National Award means: I am very humbled to receive this award. If, perhaps, others who learn of this recognition may be influenced in any positive way from my attempt to live my faith in family, work and service to others, then the award would have a very special meaning.
