Kristin is regarded as a pioneer in health care. She is passionate about community wellness 鈥 particularly for underserved populations.

As a child, Kristin watched her mom work several jobs to make ends meet. Kristin says that experience taught her about overcoming challenges and the value of hard work. Hard work certainly paid off when Kristin was awarded the Evans Scholarship, which allowed her the opportunity to attend Marquette.

After graduation, Kristin was selected to be a National Health Service Corps Scholar and served with the organization in central California for three years. She joined Howard Brown Health Center in 2005, and in 2014 was promoted to chief operating officer. Her medical practice focuses on LGBTQ care, women鈥檚 health, HIV medicine, health promotion and interdisciplinary medical care for patients at risk.

Kristin often speaks at local and national events to help educate others about health disparities in underserved populations. She was invited to the White House to participate in a summit on how to effectively engage the LGBTQ community in the Affordable Care Act. 鈥淚 strive every day to be the best person I can be. I lead by example and my entire life's work is rooted in service,鈥 Kristin says. She credits Marquette for instilling that conviction in her life.

Each summer, Kristin volunteers at a camp for children affected by HIV/AIDS. Through the Evans Scholarship Foundation, Kristin pays it forward as a mentor for Mercy Home.

Fun facts:

Dream dinner guest: Michelle Obama

Marquette faculty or staff member who had an impact on her: "Father John Naus lived by example and inspired me to do my best.鈥

Favorite Marquette memory: Her trip to Kingston, Jamaica, on a MAP service trip with Father Patrick Dorsey. 鈥淚 learned so much about the Jamaican culture, made friendships that still remain in my life, and provided services to a community in great need.鈥
