Nursing students on the front line -- at Marquette
The Marquette Medical Center has been offering vaccine clinics for eligible faculty, staff and students, and nursing students have been overwhelmingly enthusiastic about the opportunity to volunteer. "In addition to clinical experience administering intramuscular injections, students underwent CDC training and reviewed procedures for dealing with potential adverse reactions that we may see in patients during the post-vaccination observation period," said Sarah Calonder, MSN, RN, CCRN and nursing volunteer coordinator for the clinics. "Our students also have been checking patients in and providing patient education about the vaccine."
"We have seen such a wonderful response to our volunteer requests and are especially appreciative of our students dedicating their free time to helping those in the Marquette community stay healthy. They are excited to be a part of history!" said Dean Janet Krejci.
