Comprehensive Honors and Honors Projects
Students earn Comprehensive Honors by completing Core Honors plus either
- At least one Disciplinary Honors Program; or
- An Honors project comprising at least 6 credits of coursework (which may include laboratory research or thesis-writing for credit) in the student’s major department or college.
In most cases, students whose major departments or colleges offer Disciplinary Honors Programs are not eligible to propose Honors projects. If your major does not offer a Disciplinary Honors Program and you are interested in pursuing an Honors project, you should consult with the UHP Director during the second semester of your sophomore year.
Honors Projects
- Students must have a 3.2 cumulative GPA to submit a proposal for an Honors project. Students must also have a cumulative 3.2 GPA to graduate with Comprehensive Honors.
- Students intending to pursue Honors projects must secure faculty mentors in their discipline and submit proposals for the projects to both their home departments and the UHP the semester before beginning to work on their projects. All proposals must be approved by both the home departments and the UHP Director.
- All completed Honors projects will be assessed and approved both by the home department (at minimum, the faculty mentor with approval by the department chair) and the UHP Director.
