Biographical Note:
The Waukesha Catholic Worker House was opened by Judith Williams in 1997. Throughout its 23 years of service, the Catholic Worker House primarily housed refugee families. Following the sudden death of Judith Williams in 2020, the Waukesha Catholic Worker House was sold, and the proceeds were donated to various charitable organizations.
Scope and Content:
This collection includes information about the operation of the Waukesha Catholic Worker House and its service to the community. Also included are documents from two projects the house collaborated in, the first being the Jiquilite Program, in which members of the Catholic Worker community in Waukesha built a schoolhouse in the village of Jiquilite, Nicaragua, in memory of Judith William's parents. The Waukesha Catholic Worker House was also part of a local coalition of churches called SOPHIA, or Stewards of Prophetic, Hopeful, Intentional Action.
Gift of Mark Doremus in 2024. Doremus served on the board of directors at the time of the house's closing.
