History: The Diocese of Birmingham was erected for northern Alabama, 1969, from the split of the Diocese of Mobile-Birmingham into the Mobile Archdiocese and the Birmingham Diocese. The Birmingham Diocese has served St. Patrick Church, Adamsville, which has had some Native American parishioners (e.g. Cherokee, Choctaw, Creek, Shawnee), 1980s-present.
