History: Monks from Our Lady of Einsiedeln Abbey (founded 934) and their successors founded the following abbeys in the United States that administered Catholic missions among Native Americans: 

1854-present St. Meinrad Abbey, St. Meinrad, Indiana
1893-present (elevated to abbey, 1903) Assumption Abbey, Richardson, North Dakota
1950-2012 (elevated to abbey, 1954; closed) Blue Cloud Abbey, Marvin, South Dakota

Claude Ebner, O.S.B., Rev. John Chrysostom Foffa, O.S.B., Rev. Jerome Hunt, O.S.B., and Christina Wewer (housekeeper of Bishop Marty); in German with some English translations.
