History: The National Shrine of St. Kateri Tekakwitha, Fonda, Montgomery County, New York, has been a shrine and pilgrimage destination in the Diocese of Albany (Archives: Albany, New York).

1938-present

Rev. Thomas Grassman, O.F.M. Conv. [Conventual Franciscans], and the Conventual Franciscans developed and have administered the shrine on what is believed to be the site of Caughnawaga, the 17th century Mohawk town where St. Kateri Tekakwitha (Algonquin-Mohawk, 1656-1680) was baptized, 1676
