History: The Diocese of Fort Wayne was erected, 1857; it lost territory as more in-state dioceses were erected, 1944-1956; and it was renamed the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, 1960. Diocesan priests from Fort Wayne-South Bend and its predecessors have served the following institutions with Native American parishioners and students:

St. Joseph Indian Normal School (Dakota, Ojibwa), St. Augustine Church, Rensselaer

All Saints Church (Maya), Logansport

Holy Family Church (Maya), South Bend

Local Native Catholics (e.g. Miami), founded and maintained Miami Lilies Kateri Circle, a prayer group and local chapter of the national Tekakwitha Conference, 2012-2013.
