History: The Diocese of Nuevo León was erected from territory of the Diocese of Michoacán, 1777. Thereafter, Nuevo León was renamed the Diocese of Linares, which was elevated and renamed the Archdiocese of Monterey. Monterey and its predecessors administered these Native American missions in present-day Louisiana and Texas:
