History: The Diocese of Albany, New York, introduced the canonization cause of Kateri Tekakwitha (Algonquin-Mohawk, 1656-1680), 1884, which the Vatican approved, 1943. In Canada, her cause became the responsibility of the Diocese of Saint-Jean-Longueuil, which named Father Henri Béchard (-1990), S.J., as the Canadian Vice Postulator.  Father Béchard, and his successor, Deacon Ron Boyer (Ojibwa), maintained offices at the Kateri Centre.
