A-12.3 Faculty Publications ("MU Writes" Collection)

(SEE ALSO: A-13)

Abstract:  The goal of this record group was to bring together, in one location, as complete a collection as possible of the University’s scholarly achievements. The collection contains items in both print and electronic formats, and consists not only of books, but also articles, pamphlets, digests, abstracts, and book reviews.

The Department of Special Collections and University Archives maintains items added to MU Writes as “archival copies” for future generations. They do not circulate outside the department; circulating copies of monographs are located in the University Libraries’ general collection. Articles, scholarly papers, and shorter publications are cataloged collectively in MARQCAT under the name of each author.

In 2008, the Libraries launched an institutional repository, , an online, web-based center for organizing, preserving and disseminating the scholarly output of Marquette faculty and students. In many cases, works previously included in MU Writes are now deposited exclusively in the institutional repository, where they are indexed and available for full-text download. The University Archives encourages members of the Marquette community to deposit work in the repository (contact the IR manager for deposit criteria), but is happy to maintain works which may not not meet the criteria for deposit. Notify the Archives of your recent book publications so that we may purchase a copy for MU Writes.

Scope and Content:  This collection is arranged into four series. Series 1 consists of bibliographies of faculty publications created by various sources. Series 2 consists of shorter works such as articles, pamphlets, digests, and book reviews. This material is arranged by the author's last name. Series 3 consists of books. No inventory is available for this series, but this material is cataloged in MarqCat under the author's last name.

Note that faculty member's personal and professional papers are organized within the records of the academic unit with which he or she was affiliated.

Restrictions:  Access to these records is unrestricted. However, the researcher assumes full responsibility for conforming with the laws of libel, privacy, and copyright which may be involved in the use of these records. Consult an archivist for further information.
