Marquette College of Nursing's James Wake Memorial Lecture to discuss transforming the culture of palliative care

MILWAUKEE — ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ's College of Nursing will present the annual on Wednesday, Nov. 7, from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union Monaghan Ballroom, located at 1442 West Wisconsin Avenue.

Shirley Otis-Green, founder of Collaborative Caring, will present "Palliative Caring: Transforming the Culture of Care through the Integration of Key Palliative Care Principles." The interactive presentation will focus on the need for transformation in the culture of palliative care and will identify opportunities to change within various areas of influence. Integration of key palliative care principles and evidence-informed best practice models and resources will be shared as participants explore ways to improve quality of life for their patients and families while also reducing their own moral distress.

Otis-Green is clinical director at the Coalition for Compassionate Care of California and an internationally recognized speaker on quality of life, palliative care, leadership development and the creation of meaningful organizational change. Her career is dedicated to enhancing excellence in the delivery of culturally congruent, person-centered and family-focused interprofessional care.

The Wake Lecture is sponsored by the College of Nursing's Institute for Palliative and End of Life Care, in memory of James Wake, late husband of former Marquette Provost Dr. Madeline Wake. James Wake's career was devoted to helping others through social work and chaplaincy.
