Media Advisory: Marquette Law School to honor Constitution Day with naturalization ceremony, Sept. 17

MILWAUKEE — The ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Law School will host a naturalization ceremony for 30 citizenship applicants in honor of Constitution Day, Tuesday, Sept. 17, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Lubar Center at Eckstein Hall. The ceremony marks the completion of the naturalization process, and the new citizens will share the moment with family and friends, along with ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ students and faculty.
The citizenship ceremony is a federal court proceeding. The Magistrate Judge Nancy Joseph of the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Wisconsin will preside over the ceremony and administer the Oath of Allegiance. Prior to conferring citizenship, Joseph will sit down for an interview with Mike Gousha, distinguished fellow in law and public policy at Marquette Law School, to share the story of her own journey to citizenship, which began in Haiti and led to her naturalization at age 18.

Hosting the Constitution Day event is part of Marquette Law School’s civic education mission, promoting a broader public understanding of the naturalization and citizenship process. The Law School will host a reception for the new citizens and their guests in the Zilber Forum, directly outside of the Lubar Center, immediately following the ceremony.
