Philosophy

Noel Adams (Ph.D., Philosophy, 2000) has written mostly on Kierkegaard and the philosophy of religion. His interests in the boundaries of rational discourse and thought are reflected in his research projects concerning paradox, ambiguity, and indirect communication. These general interests naturally led him to the study of the writings of Søren Kierkegaard. His research on Kierkegaard is informed by both historical sources and analytical methods. He is currently working on the historical sources of influence on Kierkegaard during the early part of Kierkegaard's authorship, as well as providing a philosophically suitable framework for approaching Kierkegaard's "Concluding Unscientific Postscript to Philosophical Fragments." His fluency in Danish has permitted him to spend extended periods of study at the Søren Kierkegaard Research Center in Copenhagen, Denmark, as well as the Søren Kierkegaard Library in Northfield, Minnesota.

Education

Ph.D., University of Wisconsin-Madison

Courses Taught

He has taught graduate classes in Kierkegaard, contemporary Christian metaphysics, and the problem of evil, and he has taught a variety of classes at the undergraduate level, including Theory of Ethics, Philosophy of Human Nature, Philosophy of God, and Existentialism.
