Research Interests

As an Autistic person, I am interested in empathy and how it factors into the definition of the person. Many Autistic people are accused of lacking empathy, but what does having empathy entail? Is empathy an inherently good trait, or can it ever be harmful to the empathizer? This question have led me to explore phenomenology, specifically the work of Martin Heidegger and his theories on das Man. My ultimate goal is to create an ontology of the person that takes the disabled experience into account, and can give direction on how to live an authentic life. My other research interests include existentialism, philosophy of mind, queer theory, and biomedical ethics.
