Program FAQs

Who can I talk to learn more about the program?

Please contact faculty about your interests!

Most of the information about the program, faculty research interests, application requirements, and financial aid opportunities may be found on our department webpage and the Graduate School webpage. If you are unable to find information that you need, please feel free to contact Catherine Porter, the program assistant or Dr. James Hoelzle, the Director of Clinical Training. Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact individual faculty members with whom they would like to work to inform them that they will be applying and are interested in working with them. By doing so, applicants can ascertain whether a faculty member is accepting students for the coming year and may be able to engage in a discussion about mutual research interests.

What are the admission requirements?

In addition to the completed application form, to qualify for admission to the Clinical Program, you must fulfill these specific requirements (international students may need to meet additional requirements):

  1. Transcripts from all colleges you attended.

If coursework was completed within the United States, submit copies of all current and previous college/universities except Marquette.

If coursework was completed outside of the United States, a transcript evaluation is required. A copy of a course-by-course evaluation is approved for the application process.
  2. Three letters of recommendation.
  3. A personal statement of 1000 words or less that includes a discussion of academic and professional experiences and goals. The statement should comment on how your experiences and/or interests would contribute to fostering diversity in the Clinical Psychology Program.
  4. Submission of a Graduate Record Examination (GRE), General Test score is optional.

Regarding the Personal Statement

You are asked to upload a personal statement of 1,000 words or fewer that includes discussion of academic and professional experiences and goals. The statement should comment on how your experiences and/or interests would contribute to fostering diversity in the Clinical Psychology Program. An individual’s ability to enrich diversity to the program, in addition to his/her very presence, can involve, but is not limited to, personal identity, intellectual or research contributions, and/or personal history or experiences that allow the applicant to bring a unique perspective/worldview (e.g., history of overcoming significant disadvantage, first in family to go to college). (Refer to Statement on Diversity.)

The program invites applicants that are particularly interested in diversity-related issues, in either research and/or clinical practice, to request consideration for the Department of Psychology Diversity Graduate Assistantship and/or ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Graduate School Diversity Fellowship. All applicants that believe they would contribute positively to the diversity of the program are invited to state in their application that they would like to be considered for the Diversity Graduate Assistantship and/or Fellowship.

When should I apply?

The application deadline for the Clinical Psychology Program is December 1st. Late applications will generally not be considered.

What about financial aid?

  1. Most doctoral applicants apply for and receive financial aid. Applying for financial aid does not affect your application or the chances of admittance to the program either negatively or positively.
  2. You will be asked to indicate on the application whether you are seeking financial aid or not. More information about the various types of aid can be found on the Financial Aid page.

What is the Application and Admissions Process?

Applications are reviewed by the Graduate Committee and by all faculty with whom students are interested in working. Between 30-35 applicants will be invited to campus for an interview. (It is possible to do phone interviews if an applicant cannot come to campus.) Interviews are late January to early February, and notifications will be made by the end of February.
