The Arrupe Center Van Policy

The Arrupe Center for Community Service and Social Responsibility (CSSR) has four passenger vans available for reservation for service and/or social responsibility projects and events. Each van can seat seven individuals including the driver.

Reservation Eligibility:

Priority for vehicle reservation is used to ensure that the intent of the vehicles is followed to maximize availability and usage for service projects. While van reservation is first-come, first- serve it is balanced with the need to ensure that no one group/organization monopolizes use that may hinder others’ usage for travel to/from a local service project site.

Priority List for Service-Focused Uses:

  1. Arrupe Center for Community Service and Social Responsibility.

  2. Service Student Organizations traveling to/from a local service site.

  3. Student Organizations and Greek Chapters traveling to/from a local service site.

  4. Groups of students not associated with a student organization traveling to/from a local service life.

  5. Staff/Faculty traveling to/from a local service site.

Usage of Vehicles:

All Wisconsin driving laws, regulations and local ordinances must be observed at all times.

Community Service Vans are for travel within Milwaukee County only. Exceptions may be honored on a case-by-case basis; please contact us with any questions about this policy.

Only those authorized through the Arrupe Center are approved to drive the vans.

Driver Authorization Process:

All members of the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ community (current students, faculty, and staff) who are driver authorized by the Office of Risk Management are eligible to drive the Arrupe Center vans to conduct service, social justice, or education work, or other University business in Milwaukee County.

To be authorized to drive University vehicles:

  1. Complete the Driver Authorization Form. Please allow 2-3 weeks for processing.

  2. Once the DAF has been approved, CSSR will assign the online modules for the Fleet Defense training. If you do not receive an email with the login information for Fleet Defense, email mucommunity@marquette.edu.

  3. Email a copy of your Fleet Defense certificate to mucommunity@marquette.edu.

  4. Once the certificate is received, CSSR will put you on the approved drivers list and you can check out keys from MUPD.

Requesting a CSSR vehicle:

To request a CSSR vehicle, please fill out the Van Request Form on Marquee. You can find the form.

Picking Up Van Keys:

All keys for CSSR vehicles are held in the Department of Public Safety in the 16th St. Parking Structure. You will be assigned a specific van number when your van reservation request has been confirmed. To pick up keys, go to the front desk in MUPD and ask for the specific Community Service key number assigned to you. The key will have a yellow key tag and be numbered #1-4. Make sure the key tag you are given says CS and the van number matches. If the MUPD front desk gives you an incorrect key (Bursar or Campus Ministry etc.) please return it and ask for the correct key.

Vans are parked on the lower level of the 16th Street Parking Structure.

Please remember that even though MUPD holds the keys, their job first and foremost is a police station. Please be patient as they serve those in line before you, especially during busy hours. Plan to arrive 5-10 minutes before you leave campus to pick up the keys to ensure you have enough time.

Returning Vans and Keys:

Vans must be returned to the designated parking spot by the end of the reservation time. Please be sure to park within the lines to the best of your ability. Continual failure to do so may result in a fine or other restrictions. Keys must be returned immediately to MUPD upon returning to campus. If you were unable to return the van to the designated parking spot, please contact the CSSR and let them know.

Be sure to remove all personal belongings and trash upon leaving the vehicle.

Cost of a Van:

CSSR charges a flat rate of $25 per van to cover maintenance and operational costs. For recurring usage, please contact the Director of the Arrupe Center to discuss flat rate options here.

Overnight Usage:

Overnight usage must be approved by the Arrupe Center in advance. Please contact the Center if you have any questions.

Distance Limits:

Per University policy and procedures, vans cannot be driven outside of Milwaukee County. If you have questions about this policy, please contact the Office of Risk Management.

Van Billing:

The maintenance and operational fee can be paid in cash or online. Please contact the Arrupe Center for more information.

Tickets and Citations:

Parking tickets or moving violations are the driver's sole responsibility and must be paid for promptly. The driver must provide to CSSR a copy of the ticket and documentation of payment within ten days from the date of issuance. If the ticket is not paid for within ten days, the driver is responsible for paying the late fee. Refusal to do so may lead to a suspension of van privileges and the fine amount will be placed on the student’s account. If any one group or individual has a pattern or recurring tickets, further penalty may be imposed.

Accidents:

Accidents are any incident that result in any injury, property damage, or damage to your or another party’s vehicle. Any type of damage or injury should be reported promptly (see report form in vehicle), regardless of the severity or lack thereof. If a driver has an accident, either on or off campus, they must follow the steps outlined in the Accidents and Procedures Reporting from the Office of Risk Management. A copy is kept in the glovebox of each vehicle.

All authorized drivers must familiarize themselves with the instructions to respond appropriately to various accident scenarios. Any unreported accident/vehicle damage may result in the group/organization/department’s loss of privileges to use the CSSR Vans. As always, call 9-1-1 in cases of emergency and follow-up as appropriate and able.

For vehicle needs/concerns that do not hinder safe travel, report to the Arrupe Center, AMU 137 following trip. If assistance is needed during a trip due to functional concerns impeding safe travel, call the Arrupe Center at (414) 288-7205 during business hours or MUPD (414) 288-6800 after hours.

Gas:

CSSR makes every effort to keep all vehicles fueled. Should you need fuel, you must go to an off-campus fuel station and submit a receipt to CSSR for reimbursement. For local use, please only fill the gas tank if the level drops below 1⁄8 tank when returning to campus within Milwaukee County.

Grievances:

Any special request, complaint, or grievance should be communicated in a written statement to mucommunity@marquette.edu. The complainant may be invited to present their grievance in person. A decision will be made and communicated after the meeting. An individual or group may request an appeal for a particular decision by submitting a written statement to mucommunity@marquette.edu.

Vehicle Passengers:

CSSR vans should be typically used to transport ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ members. If you are transporting individuals who are not members of the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ community (current students, staff, and faculty), you should seek appropriate permission slips and authorizations. Please contact the Office of Risk Management for the appropriate forms.
