You're in luck! You have a great resource: The MIC Speakers Lab. One of the Diederich College of Communication’s signature initiatives, The MIC is located in Johnston Hall 504 and led by Communication Studies Instructor Tracey Sturgal. Open to all students, faculty or staff, the MIC works with groups or individuals every step of the way.
At the MIC, you can receive help in all aspects of presentation development from brainstorming ideas and organizing content to practicing effective delivery and creating visuals. In addition, trained student experts will serve as your coaches, teaching you breathing techniques, positive self talk and visualization exercises to help you stay calm and centered during your speech. You can also receive feedback on your visual aids like PowerPoint presentations, handouts, charts and visualizations.
The student experts at The MIC have taken either the Professional Communication or the Business Communication course in the Diederich College and receive ongoing training. Professor Sturgal also works to create a safe environment for all students who come to The MIC for help. Telling students to aim for excellence rather than perfection, she encourages her student experts to “lead with love.â€
To receive feedback and practice your individual or group presentation, today! We look forward to meeting you soon.
