ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ was founded by the (Jesuits) in 1881. Continuing the Jesuits' commitment to liberal education in the Roman Catholic tradition, the university today has an enrollment of about 11,500 students in eleven colleges and schools. The Graduate School is a major component of the university, representing 2,100 students enrolled in certificate, master’s, and doctoral degree programs.
The Department of Theology functions within the academic, ecclesial, and local communities to investigate and understand the Catholic tradition, its relation to other Christian communions and other religions, and to issues of justice and peace. As a community of scholars, we introduce students to the research methods and content of Christian traditions in a way that serves the needs of the diverse communities to which professors and students belong. Representing an urban university, we reflect and support the cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity of our beloved Milwaukee.
