Alumnus of the Year Award

Donal HerdrichDONALD J. HERDRICH, ENG '66, GRAD '68

After serving in Vietnam as a U.S. Army helicopter pilot, Don returned home ready to put his Marquette engineering degrees to work. But a chance job opportunity at a Chicago bank led him down a different path that culminated in an incredibly successful career in investment management.

It’d be tough to find a Marquette graduate who has influenced as much of Chicago’s landscape as Cherryl. For 30 years, she worked for the city of Chicago in various positions, including her role as the city’s first woman building commissioner. Today, Cherryl is president and CEO of Ardmore Associates, a Chicago engineering consulting firm.

Eve and Mike go where their heart takes them. That has meant answering a philanthropic call in rural Cambodia, where they built and continue to support two schools, giving hundreds of children life-changing access to an education. They’ve also started a new nonprofit organization to help kids near their Hawaiian home.

Before Mary’s husband died in 1995, he told her to think carefully about what she wanted to spend her time on. She decided that one of those things was Marquette, and her influence has been felt across campus ever since.
