M Club Hy Popuch Memorial Service Award

Robert WilkinsROBERT L. WILKINS, ARTS '62, LAW '68
Brookfield, Wis.

Like many students, Bob didn’t have a firm plan for his life when he first came to Marquette other than to play football.

“That is why I enrolled in the School of Engineering and dropped out after three days and went to Liberal Arts,” he says.

Things worked out just fine from there for Bob. A member of Marquette’s last football team in 1960, he eventually received his undergraduate and law degrees and went on to practice law for 45 years, concentrating in estate planning, probate, real estate, business law and tax planning.

Today, he serves in an "of counsel" capacity at the law firm Moertl, Wilkins & Campbell, S.C. He also acts as a guardian ad litem for persons with disabilities, something he plans to continue as long as his health allows.

Bob still closely follows Marquette basketball and other sports while also working as a college tennis and high school soccer referee. He and his wife, Dorothy, celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2014. They enjoy traveling and spending time with their grandchildren.

In all, he says he gets the most satisfaction out of “being helpful to people, forming relationships and feeling needed.”

The award is named for Hy Popuch, a former M Club president and recipient of the M Club Man of the Year Award in 1974. The award name changed from "Man of the Year" to the "Hy Popuch Award" to honor Hy, who died at the age of 73 in 1984 of a stroke.
