Department of Biomedical Sciences

Dr. Rajala received a B.A. in biology from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1972, a Ph.D. in anatomy from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1976, and a B.S. in physical therapy from ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ in 1988. Dr. Rajala was an assistant professor of anatomy at the Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia prior to coming to ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ in 1979. He is currently an associate professor of anatomy in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and an adjunct faculty member at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Rajala was previously active in research investigating the mechanisms of normal and abnormal embryonic development of the cardiovascular system and muscle performance in elite athletes. He is a former member of the U.S. Speed Skating Sports Medicine Team. Dr. Rajala is director of the gross anatomy course for physician assistant and physical therapy students and the gross anatomy course for freshman dental students.

Research Interests

Research by Dr. Rajala

Previously conducted research in experimental embryology and teratology which focused on normal and abnormal cardiovascular development. Also conducted research in muscle power performance in elite athletes.
