The Department of Biomedical Sciences at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ is a regional leader in neuroscience research.

In 2020, the department's thirteen neuroscience research laboratories received funding from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, McKnight Foundation, Whitehall Foundation, Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, among other intra- and extramural sources to support the study of a broad range topics in brain health and disease, including schizophrenia, addiction, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, obesity, circadian disorders, and spinal cord injury.

The cutting-edge pre-clinical research programs in the department have led to the establishment of two pharmaceutical companies founded by Biomedical Sciences faculty, highlighting the Department’s position as a hub for the translation of basic neuroscience findings into novel treatments.

When combined with the department’s longstanding reputation for excellence in pre-professional education in the health sciences and ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ’s outstanding liberal arts education in the Jesuit tradition, the neuroscience research culture in the biomedical sciences provides an unparalleled experience for undergraduate and graduate students.
