Associate Professor Emeritus of Economics

Dr. Breeden’s bachelor’s degree was in business administration (major: Accounting) from the University of Florida and he worked for three years as a CPA for Ernst & Ernst, CPA’s in Orlando. Dr. Breeden joined Ӱ in 1979 after earning a Ph.D. in Economics from Virginia Tech where he studied under James Buchanan and Gordon Tullock. His background also includes two years in the aerospace industry in Brevard County, Florida. He has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in managerial economics, public sector economics, and economics and law. His published research focused on the proper measurement of tort damages, and the effects of students' attitudes toward the market system on learning economies.

Personal Interests

Community involvement has included board service at the Milwaukee Sunrise Rotary Club (Club president 1996-7), the Volunteer Center of Greater Milwaukee, volunteer service at Nativity Jesuit Middle School and Literacy Services, and advisory board memberships at the Wisconsin Forum, the Heartland Institute of Chicago and the Social Sciences Advisory Committee (Carthage College). Dr. Breeden retired in May 2014 and was promoted to Associate Professor Emeritus.

Dr. Breeden has completed summer camping trips to the four corners of the North American continent on his Harley Davidson Electra Glide Ultra and still enjoys a ride on a clear Wisconsin Sunday afternoon.  Currently his days are filled with reading, scouring the internet for interesting facts and deeper truths, and the occasional golf or fishing trip with friends.  He would love to hear from former students at his home (Stone Bank, WI & Emerald Seas Condominium, Cocoa Beach, FL) or via email at charles.breeden@marquette.edu
