He joined the faculty in 2013 as an adjunct instructor in the graduate school. He teaches classes to both undergraduate and graduate students in the area of finance and capital management. He works closely with the Center for Applied Investment Management (AIM) Program with an emphasis on Fixed Income and Portfolio Management.
Mr. Swain recently retired from a 25-year career at Northwestern Mutual. He was a Vice President of the Northwestern Mutual Management Company, LLC where he was responsible for management of the Public Investment Grade Fixed Income group. His previous experience includes responsibility for the Equity and High Yield/Leveraged Loan Groups. These portfolios aggregated to over $100 billion of fixed income investments including High Grade and High Yield Corporate bonds, Mortgage-backed and Asset-backed securities, and Treasury bonds. His team included portfolio managers, traders and analysts. He served as a member of the Northwestern Mutual Investment Risk Management and Derivative Committees.
Swain received an undergraduate honors degree from ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
He and his wife Ann are involved with a number of civic and educational organizations, including Special Spaces. Mr. Swain serves as the Executive Director of Special Spaces, Inc. Special Spaces creates bedroom makeovers for children with cancer. Founded in 2004, the organization has completed nearly 1300 bedroom for families in 20 states. The organization has chapters across the Midwest and Southeast run by predominantly volunteer directors. Mr. Swain is responsible for all facets of the organization with a focus on strategic vision, mission delivery, and development.
