Instructor of Practice - Marketing

Scott Rex is an Instructor of Marketing and Marquette’s co-director of the Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute (NMDSI), a $40 million partnership among Marquette, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Northwestern Mutual.

Scott is also director of the College of Business’s Graduate Analytics program and chairs the Business Analytics Advisory Board at COBA.

He joined Marquette in 2010 after a career in journalism, corporate marketing and consulting, specializing in emerging small business and enterprise voice and data technologies. Scott holds an MBA from Vanderbilt University and a B.S. from Northwestern University.

At Marquette Scott teaches the undergraduate Business Analytics (BUAN) capstone course and has developed and teaches courses in marketing analytics, customer relationship management, marketing research, the role of marketing in profitable innovation, and how economics drives more effective marketing decisions.

In the Milwaukee area he’s mentored numerous startup companies and has worked as a mentor for several startup accelerators.

As co-director of the NMDSI, Scott is working to leverage his tech, corporate and Milwaukee community relationships to help grow the data science talent pipeline in southeast Wisconsin, increase the awareness and use of data science techniques to address opportunities and problems faced by local companies and nonprofits, and boost the use of data science in Marquette’s classrooms and faculty research.
