McNair Scholars Program
Sande Robinson Emerging Leader
The Educational Talent Search program at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ (METS) is funded by the U.S. Department of Education for the purpose of increasing the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in and complete their postsecondary education. The METS program works with students in grades 6th through the 12th. METS also encourages individuals who have not completed education programs at the secondary or postsecondary level to enter or reenter and complete postsecondary education.
Typically, METS students are first-generation potential college students (neither parent received a four year college degree) with limited income, and a strong desire to attend college. Our participants receive a wide range of free services and participate in scholastic, cultural and enrichment activities.
METS advisors provide services to TRIO students at various target schools within the Milwaukee County. Staff members work collaboratively with the school administrators, counselors, teachers, parents and community organizations throughout the school year.

Our Mission
The mission of the Marquette Educational Talent Search Program is to identify disadvantaged youth with potential for post-secondary education, encourage them to continue in and graduate from secondary schools and to enroll in postsecondary education programs. In addition, Marquette educational Talent Search encourages high school dropouts to return to school.
METS seeks to use evidenced-based, innovative practices to give project participants the resources, supports, and pathways to success into, though, and beyond a postsecondary degree. Specifically, METS seeks to engage participants in rigorous course of secondary education, support their success in such a rigorous course of study, help them to smoothly transition into a postsecondary program, and be successful in attaining a postsecondary degree.
First, we seek to increase persistence in and graduation from a high school with a rigorous curriculum for all project participants. Second, we aim to increase participants ability to apply for admission and be admitted to postsecondary institution. Finally, we will increase participants likelihood to persist in and graduate from college.
