What is required of me as an employer?

For co-op students: 

Co-ops are meant to help students clarify their career goals, enhance their performance and engagement in the classroom, and develop their professional networks. Because students earn college credit for completing co-op terms, co-op employers must adhere to specific program requirements. To help ensure the best possible experience for both student and employer, employers should: 

  • Give students opportunities to build on their knowledge with each co-op work term. We find that rotational co-ops offer students a well-rounded experience. 
  • Provide onboarding and necessary training for the student to be successful in the co-op position. 
  • Assign a mentor, separate from the supervisor, to the student. 
  • Ask the student to share co-op work term goals with their mentor and supervisor, and help the student work toward these goals
  • Conduct regular check-in meetings with the student, biweekly at a minimum. 
  • Complete a performance review and evaluation at the end of the co-op work term. Students, meanwhile, complete a work exit report. The Office of Industry Relations provides co-op work term evaluation forms for the student and supervisor. 

For internship students: 

  • For internships, the practices above are highly recommended for the best student and employer experience. However, they are not required. 

When should I begin recruiting? 

Our employers are most successful when they recruit approximately one year in advance. Doing so ensures the broadest applicant pool and sufficient time for the full recruiting process. However, companies are still able to recruit for positions year-round with various lead times. 

How do I find and connect with qualified students? 

The best way to connect with Marquette students is to create a user account on , Marquette's career management tool for students and employers.  Employers can post opportunities to Handshake free of charge. 

When your position is approved on Handshake, email the Office of Industry Relations to have the position included in the e-newsletter that is sent to all engineering students.

How do I meet and evaluate students? 

A great way to fill open positions and increase your company's brand recognition is to come to campus. Employers are welcome on campus throughout the school year for a variety of recruiting events. 

  • Attend our career fairs. ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ hosts a campuswide fair each fall, and the Opus College of Engineering also hosts its own fair each spring. 
  • You can schedule on-campus interviews directly in . You can select the date and reserve a room for an interview.
  • Employers can also schedule information sessions, lunch and learn events, and other on-campus opportunities.
