Visitor Policy (Revised 7/2021)

Visitors are permitted in library facilities in accordance with the definitions and guidelines on this page and with Ӱ policies.

Visitors are required to:

  1. Wear their visitor pass at all times
  2. Comply with visitor hours

In order to maximize the availability of study space and materials for members of the Marquette community, as well as to ensure that only approved Marquette users have access to the facility, the following visitor access policy is in effect for the Raynor Library.

Marquette Students, Faculty, Staff, and Administrators

Marquette students, faculty, staff and administrators must present a valid Marquette ID to enter the turnstiles and are not allowed to “swipe” in other users. Individuals having problems with access through the turnstile should see the Library representative at the visitor registration counter.

Visitor Hours

Unless otherwise noted, visitor hours are:

Monday - Thursday 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM
Friday 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Saturday Noon - 5:00 PM
Sunday Noon - 8:00 PM

* Hours may vary during holidays, breaks, and summer sessions.

Guests of Marquette Students, Faculty, Staff, and Administrators

Guests accompanied by a valid Marquette ID holder will be admitted to the library after submitting a valid photo ID, which must be left at the registration counter. If the ID presented is a WI driver’s license, a copy will be made and held at the registration counter.  Guests will be issued a pass that they must have with them at all times. The pass must be returned to library staff to retrieve their ID and will be good for that day only. The Marquette host is responsible for the actions of their guests while inside the library and must be with them for the duration of their visit.

Marquette Alumni

Marquette Alumni must show an alumni card and photo ID for entrance. Alumni without a valid Marquette alumni card can have their alumni status verified at the visitor registration counter. Alumni are eligible for on-site access to library resources and limited borrowing privileges (see Alumni Card Borrowing Privileges for further information). Off-campus access to online databases is not available due to licensing restrictions.

Annual Visitor Pass

Members of the public with a demonstrated and continuing research need can apply for a library card that will allow on-site access to library resources and limited borrowing privileges. This card does not allow for off-campus access to online databases. The cost for the pass is $50/year, plus the cost of the Marquette photo ID. This card does not allow for off-campus access to online databases due to licensing restrictions. The research pass is valid for one year, at which time the patron must reapply.

Applicants must submit an Application Form, meet with a librarian, and present a letter on official letterhead signed by a faculty member or corporate officer supporting the applicant's research needs or provide other evidence of scholarly activity at the scheduled meeting. Compliance with the University's Acceptable Use Policy is required.

Limited Research Pass

Individuals with a limited, yet demonstrated research need, can request a one-day guest pass for $5. (NOTE: We only accept cash or credit cards.) This pass will be issued only after the potential user meets with a librarian and demonstrates a clear research need that can’t be met by other local libraries such as UWM or MPL. A valid photo ID must be left at the counter. If the ID presented is a WI driver’s license, a copy will be made and held at the registration counter. Guests will be issued a pass that they must carry with them at all times. The pass must be returned to library staff to retrieve their ID and will be good for that day only. The university reserves the right to deny the application of any requestor, and access privileges can be revoked by the university at any time.
