Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate Degrees

The Mechanical Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of , , under the commission's General Criteria and Program Criteria for Mechanical and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.

Mechanical engineering is the branch of engineering that is concerned with mechanical and energy systems, along with the intelligent use of modern materials. Mechanical engineers conceive, plan, design and direct the manufacturing, distribution and operation of a wide variety of devices, machines and systems for energy conversion, environmental control, materials processing, transportation, materials handling and other purposes. The field of mechanical engineering is very broad, and the profession thus provides an ideal base for interdisciplinary activities.

Engineers are constantly challenged to advance and implement modern technologies. The challenge can be met provided that one obtains a sound knowledge of the fundamental principles of the engineering sciences. Marquette's mechanical engineering curriculum is designed to provide a thorough understanding of the engineering sciences and principles of manufacturing and organization used to implement these fundamentals in practical engineering applications.

Undergraduate Bulletin*:

The Five-Year B.S./M.S. Program allows qualified students to receive a bachelor of science and a master of science in mechanical engineering in a few as five years. Students with qualifying grade point averages enroll in the program during their junior year. They begin their thesis research the summer between their junior and senior years. Their research laboratory experience will continue during the summer between their senior and fifth years and throughout their fifth year, culminating in the preparation of a written thesis and defense.
