Pharmacists dispense medications prescribed by physicians and other health professionals, and also monitor patient health. They must understand the use, clinical effects and composition of drugs. Most pharmacists work in retail drug stores, hospitals or clinics. Pharmacy programs are four years from point of entry. Pharmacy programs typically have an extensive list of prerequisite courses that includes science and non-science courses. Shadowing or working in a pharmacy is absolutely critical for acceptance to pharmacy programs, and students should pursue these opportunities early on in their undergraduate career.
