Eligibility for Services

All prospective clients are required to participate in an evaluation at the MUSHC, even if they have been previously evaluated elsewhere. Once an evaluation is completed, the student-faculty diagnostic team will determine if therapy at MUSHC is appropriate.  If therapy is recommended, additional information about scheduling those services will be provided at that time.

Because of our student-based delivery of services and restrictions resulting from Medicare guidelines, Medicare recipients are not eligible for individual speech-language therapy through the MUSHC. Alternative models of service delivery are often available, however, as described under specialized programs.

Standard clinic policy regarding continuation of services is as follows:

  • Therapy will be provided for successive semesters until it is determined there is no longer a need for services and/or
  • Therapy will be provided until it is determined that a client will no longer benefit from services at MUSHC and/or
  • Therapy will be discontinued if a client does not meet attendance requirements and/or does not manage fees owed for prior services.
  • Individual speech-language therapy will be discontinued following 8 semesters of services.

Equitable Treatment

Students, faculty, staff, and persons served in the program's clinics are treated in a nondiscriminatory manner that is, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national or ethnic origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, genetic information, citizenship, or status as a covered veteran. The institution and program comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and executive orders pertaining thereto.

Scheduling

  • The MUSHC operates according to the academic calendar, providing services during Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. The clinic is closed during University breaks and holidays. Clinic hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Fall and Spring semester, with limited hours during Summer Session. Scheduling of evaluation and therapy sessions is completed with consideration of the availability of the client/family, supervising faculty and student clinicians.
  • Scheduling of speech-language services is done on a semester basis, i.e., the weekly schedule for services is determined at the beginning of the semester and services continue on that same schedule for the entire semester. Fees are charged on a semester basis (see below).
  • MUSHC classes and individual therapy sessions typically run from early September through early December in the Fall semester and from late January/early February through early May in Spring semester. Specialized programs may have a different pre-determined schedule within the semester.  Scheduled start and end dates for services and anticipated closures are provided to clients and families at the beginning of each semester.
  • Because of the many factors involved in scheduling speech-language services in our clinic, any requested changes to an established therapy schedule are not guaranteed.
