First, speak with your supervisor to confirm that your hire was entered in JobX at least three days ago. If it was not entered, then your department must create your hire in JobX and manually track the hours you work for the first few days, for later EmpCenter entry by your supervisor. If you were hired within the past three days then the system interfaces need more time to complete and your department must manually track the hours you work for the first few days, for later EmpCenter entry by your supervisor.
If your hire was entered correctly, and if you are using a time clock, then it could be due to a worn mag stripe on your MUID (see Question 2: Badge Number Not Found).
If you were able to login to the EmpCenter web application but are having trouble using the Web Clock, please contact the IT Services TechSquad for technical assistance at techsquad@marquette.edu or (414) 288-7799.
First, make sure you are swiping your MUID card with the mag stripe to the right. If your MUID card is worn or broken, it may not be recognized by the clock and you should have it replaced at the Card Office. If neither situation applies to you but you are a new employee, then speak with your supervisor to make sure you are on their list of employees in EmpCenter. If you are not, then ask your supervisor to contact Payroll for assistance.
As soon as you realize that you clocked into the wrong job, you need to clock out of the incorrect job and clock into the correct job. You must inform both supervisors of the mistake so they can make the appropriate corrections to your timesheets.
Notify your supervisor that you forgot to clock for that shift. The supervisor will be able to manually enter the hours on your timesheet.
Notify your supervisor that you forgot to clock out for that shift. The supervisor will be able to manually enter the "out" time on your timesheet.
Notify your supervisor that you forgot to clock in for that shift. The supervisor will be able to manually enter the "in" time on your timesheet.
When you are hired to a job on campus, you need to complete an I-9 form in the Office of Student Employment on your first day of work. You may use other forms of identification besides a Social Security card or passport. Check the last page of the I-9 form for a list of acceptable documents to be used when completing the I-9 form. You may begin work without a social security card. However, you should apply for one as soon as you have been hired for a campus job. (Note to international students: Check with the Office of International Education regarding how to apply for a social security card.)
Payroll is no longer accepting paper timesheets. Therefore, all hours need to be reported via the EmpCenter timekeeping system. If there is no time clock in your area, you should punch in and out via the web clock. Contact your supervisor(s) to let them know that you have not punched via EmpCenter. Supervisors are able to manually enter the hours after verification.
Review your hours worked by logging into EmpCenter and selecting View Time Sheet from the Dashboard. If you have multiple jobs, review the hours for each one individually by selecting an assignment from the list provided. If you only have one job, the timesheet for that assignment will appear automatically. The current timesheet displays by default, but prior timesheets can also be viewed by clicking the back arrow below the EmpCenter logo in the upper left corner. See the MU Student User Guide for more detailed instructions.
An actual MUID card is only required to utilize the time clocks. You can punch in and out using the web clock without your physical MUID card. Note that if your department requires employees to use a time clock, you should ask your supervisor’s permission to use the web clock in this situation.
See the MU Student User Guide for more detailed instructions.
