One of the best things about working at Marquette is working with Marquette students. They continue to help us make improvements to the policies and procedures of our office. They also help to create a great work environment with their energy and ideas. Their support is very much appreciated, and we consistently and proudly acknowledge them both formally and informally for their hard work.
We have consistently nominated student employees for the prestigious Student Employee of the Year award. In 2018, 2019, and 2020 we have had students from our office receive the reward and recognition. All three won the local award and one earned the Student Employee of the Year for the Midwest region.
We hire more than 100 students each year who work with our program. We offer numerous leadership opportunities along with support and training for each.
Most of our student employees are tutors.  Tutors must meet specific requirements (refer to qualifications) to be offered an interview. If hired, they are required to participate in 10 hours of training that is mandated by our of nationally certified College of Reading and Learning (CRLA) program. Many tutors pursue additional training and are promoted and compensated accordingly. Leadership positions include Tutor Mentor (provide guidance and support for new tutors), Tutor Supervisors (offer guidance and support for veteran tutors) and Tutor Training Team participant.
We also hire office assistants.  A good attitude and a strong work ethic are the necessary (refer to qualifications).  Students in this role who want to pursue a leadership position can apply for Student Managers or Building Supervisors.
We interview, train and review all employees to ensure they have a good work experience.  We also share in their experience of "adulting," share in their joys and frustrations, and offer support and guidance.  It is truly a pleasure to be a part of their journey.
