The McNeely Prison Education Consortium is named for attorney, community advocate and ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ alumnus R. L. McNeely who originally envisioned and inspired this consortium, but passed away before he could see it come to full fruition. R. L. McNeely pursued his passions for education and helping others his whole life. After earning his Ph.D. at Brandeis University, he joined the faculty of the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee to teach social work. Looking to increase his influence, in 1990 he enrolled at Marquette Law School. In retirement, he took on leading roles in Milwaukee NAACP and the Felmers O. Chaney Correctional Center, and later established a scholarship at Marquette Law School with the goal of encouraging young Black men to pursue careers in law. Our goal is to honor his legacy by giving the consortium his name and developing it to become one of Marquette’s signature initiatives.
