College of Business Administration Award Recipients

Friend of the College Award

Andrew NunemakerANDREW N. NUNEMAKER

Milwaukee

Andy Nunemaker is a big fish. It doesn鈥檛 matter how large the pond. When he swims onto a scene, he becomes the scene.

But Andy doesn鈥檛 pay any mind to such approximations. He鈥檚 too busy directing the spotlight onto others 鈥 offering support, championing a cause, encouraging people to become big fish in their own right.

Andy is president of Intermedix EMSystems, a leading developer of Web-based communication solutions for the emergency medical industry.

鈥淚 like the fact that our services save and improve lives,鈥 he says. 鈥淚t makes it very easy to come into work knowing we are doing good in the world.鈥

It also makes it easy for others to take notice of his work. He was recently honored with the Bravo! Entrepreneurial Award from BizTimes Milwaukee.

Before joining EMSystems in 2004, Andy was CEO of GE Healthcare鈥檚 division in Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia.

So, clearly, his work has given him license to travel the world. But Andy has always been most interested in helping Milwaukee cultivate its own culture. An involved member of the community and avid supporter of the arts, he has been chair for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Ball, board adviser for the Milwaukee Arts Partners, fundraising event co-chair for Camp Heartland and president of the Milwaukee Forum. And he is a past president of the Entrepreneurs Organization of Wisconsin.

As for Marquette, Andy has been a longtime supporter of the College of Business Administration鈥檚 Kohler Center and has taught several classes in the college. He also is a mentor for students and a Golden Angels Network member.

Fun fact: Andy earned a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Valparaiso University, but it wasn鈥檛 always the career path he thought he鈥檇 take. 鈥淲hen I was 7 years old, I told my mom I wanted to be an engineer when I grow up,鈥 he says. 鈥淪he said, 鈥極h, like your Uncle Frank, who works for Boeing?鈥 To which I replied: 鈥楴o! I want to drive trains!鈥 鈥
