Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award

Maurice "Bo" H. EllisMAURICE "BO" H. ELLIS, SP '77
South Holland, Ill.

Bo’s daughter succumbed to a rare liver disease in 2003, three years after she graduated from Marquette. So he and his wife, Candy, started the Nicole Ellis Foundation, which is funded mainly through private gifts and the annual Warrior Golf Outing. The foundation also provides an annual scholarship through Marquette’s Ethnic Alumni Association and supports the American Liver Foundation.

 

Lifetime Achievement Award

Kevin M. ByrneKEVIN M. BYRNE, JOUR '71
Monkton, Md.

Kevin is an institution. As senior vice president of public and community relations for the Baltimore Ravens, an organization he has been with for 31 years, he oversees an award-winning staff responsible for the team's website and most of the print publications. He also has provided media relations assistance at 24 Super Bowls and two Pro Bowls and was Marquette’s sports information director during the final years of Al McGuire’s tenure.

As a season ticket holder for Marquette men’s and women’s basketball, Craig and his wife, Wendy, don’t miss a game. And as a major supporter of Marquette athletics, Craig doesn’t miss an opportunity to help the university’s student-athletes and proud athletic tradition continue to soar to greater heights.   

 

M Club Hy Popuch Memorial Service Award

Playing basketball at Marquette was just the beginning of Tom’s athletic connection to the university. He served four terms as M Club president, the longest in history; was a member of the men’s basketball alumni reunion committees; is on the Marquette Athletics Board; and, with wife Pat, has committed to establishing endowed scholarships for men’s and women’s basketball through their estate plans.
