Law School Award Recipients

Alumna of the Year Award

Natalie A. BlackNATALIE A. BLACK, LAW '78
Oostburg, Wis.

Her career path didn’t lead to a judge’s robe, but Natalie has made a big impact in other ways. After earning her bachelor’s degree in economics and mathematics from Stanford University, she studied law at Marquette and later completed the program for management development at Harvard Business School. She now is senior vice president and chief legal counsel for Kohler Co., president of the Kohler Foundation, and a Marquette Trustee, among other leadership roles.

 

Lifetime Achievement Award

Adrian P. SchooneADRIAN P. SCHOONE, BUS AD '57, LAW '59
Racine, Wis.

Adrian has tried more than 250 civil and criminal cases to verdict and handled more than 35 cases before the Court of Appeals and the Wisconsin Supreme Court. He also has served as president of the State Bar of Wisconsin and the Marquette Law School Alumni Association, as well as a member and chair of the Wisconsin Judicial Commission and what is now the Office of Lawyer Regulation.

 

Howard B. Eisenberg Service Award

Columbia, Ky.

“Do well, and do good.” Former Law School Dean Howard Eisenberg said it often. Stefanie has made it her mission. While at Marquette, she received the Outstanding Public Interest Law Student Award from the Wisconsin Bar Association, then began her career by providing legal support to victims of domestic violence. Today, she’s directing attorney for the Columbia, Ky., office of the Appalachian Research and Defense Fund, also known as AppalReD.

 

Charles W. Mentkowski Sports Law Alumnus of the Year Award

Racine, Wis.

In sports, Ante believes that excellence comes in many forms. So has his career. As a law student, he was executive editor of the Marquette Sports Law Review and, after graduation, was active with the National Sports Law Institute. These days, he’s athletics and activities director at South Milwaukee High School, where he has hosted Marquette students as interns for more than a decade.Â
