The master of education graduate program in STEM teaching from ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ prepares graduate students to be exceptional educators in science, technology, engineering, and math.

This accelerated 14-month M.Ed. program requires students to have a bachelor's degree in STEM education discipline. Upon program completion, students will graduate with a Master's in Education and earn a license endorsement for initial Wisconsin teacher licensure in science grades 4—12 or math grades 4—12 with basic content knowledge in computer science. This computer science concentration can be utilized to add on Wisconsin certification through the once initial licensure is issued.

The master of education in STEM teaching program is funded by the National Science Foundation's Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship. Scholarship and stipend support is available.

To be eligible for admission to the Graduate School at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) from a regionally accredited institution or international equivalent must be completed prior to starting graduate school.
  • A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.
  • Demonstrated English proficiency for non-U.S. citizens.

General Requirements

  • A personal statement of purpose that includes professional and academic goals.
  • A resume that includes professional and educational experiences.
  • GRE Scores (general test only, optional). 
  • For International Applicants only: A TOEFL score or other acceptable proof of English proficiency.
  • An interview and/or writing test may be required of applicants following the initial screening.

Program Requirements

  • All applicants seeking teacher certification must have transcripts evaluated by the College of Education before formally applying to the Graduate School. Only upon approval of the department should students submit application materials to the Graduate School. Students seeking an advanced degree and certification must meet the criteria for both admission to the Office of Teacher Education and the Graduate School. All inquiries concerning certification should be directed to the College of Education Graduate Office via telephone at (414) 288-6981.
  • Teacher certification applicants are required to submit Praxis II scores to the College of Education’s Office of Teacher Education. Applicants must also undergo a criminal background check, conducted by ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ. A second criminal background check is conducted at the state level when student teaching is completed, as part of the teacher license application.
  • Individuals submitting applications for administrative licenses must undergo a criminal background check, conducted by the state, when their administrative program is complete and they submit their administrative license application to the state.

1Upon admission, final official transcripts from all previously attended colleges/universities, with certified English translations if original language is not English, must be submitted to the Graduate School within the first five weeks of the term of admission or a hold preventing registration for future terms will be placed on the student’s record.

February 15: Priority deadline for summer admission (May start term)

Generous merit-based aid is available. Private scholarships may also be available. U.S. citizens and permanent residents may be eligible to apply for need-based federal aid (loans) to help fund their educational expenses as well.
