2017 Three Minute Thesis Competition
MARQUETTE UNIVERSITY GRADUATE SCHOOL MAKES HISTORY WITH THREE MINUTE THESIS COMPETITION
Mr. Peter Borg, a doctoral student in the Department of History emerged as the winner of the Three Minute Thesis competition!
The Graduate School and ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ made history on Friday, February 24, 2017, by hosting its first Three Minute Thesis competition. The Three Minute Thesis is a global research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland in Australia. It is an academic competition for doctoral and master’s degree students that require each participant to explain his or her research effectively in three minutes, using one slide, with no animation.

The competition started with 21 participants who competed in a qualifying round judged by ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ faculty.

Presenters, Winners and Awards
Ten finalists were chosen to compete for the coveted prize of $1,000. Additionally, $500 was awarded to the Runner Up and the audience voted for the People’s Choice winner who was also awarded $500.
The final competition was judged by Dr. Daniel Myers, Provost, ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ; Ms. Kelly McShane, Trustee, ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Board of Trustees; Ms. Griselda Aldrete, President and CEO of Hispanic Professionals of Greater Milwaukee; and Ms. Karen Herzog, Higher Education Reporter for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Mr. Peter Borg, a doctoral student in the Department of History emerged as the winner with only two seconds to spare with his presentation "The Colored Problem“--Milwaukee's White Urban Churches Respond to the Second Great Migration. Mr. Borg will represent ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ as he moves forward to compete in a regional competition in April at the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Runner Up was awarded to Mr. Brice Cleland, a doctoral student in Clinical and Translational Rehabilitation Health Science with his presentation Compensation and Brain Activation Post-Stroke.
The People’s Choice was awarded to Ms. Meghan Fealey, a doctoral student in Biological Sciences with her presentation Organizing Your Genes.
