Personal Statement:

Dr. Albojay Deacon brings an abundance of lived experience as former student who attended Milwaukee public schools from K4-K12. Albojay is also a past recipient of the HCOP grant and is a past instructor in the HCOP program. Dr. Deacon exemplifies his commitment to helping those from disadvantaged backgrounds through his establishment of the first black owned PT clinic located in the heart of Milwaukee. Serving as associate director of the HCOP program fits with Albojay’s values of providing opportunities to students from disadvantaged background who are often underrepresented in many health professions. 

Total Training (10 years training and experience):

Board certified orthopedic specialist (OCS), Fellow of the American Academy of orthopedic Manual Therapy (FAAOMPT).  Extensive clinical experience with treating neuro-musculoskeletal conditions. Coordinated graduate level courses and served as lab assistant in courses within Marquette’s PT department. Assisted in establishing Milwaukee’s first black owned PT clinic.  Additional teaching experience in HCOP’s summer program.  Lived experiences of attending all Milwaukee public schools and a former HCOP recipient.

  • 2022-present: APTA Wisconsin Diversity Equity Inclusion Strategic Plan
    • Increase outreach to underrepresented groups to foster diversity of representation enrolled in PT/PTA programs: Identify and mentor prospective students from underrepresented groups
    • Identify PTs/PTAs from underrepresented groups to engage with MS or HS students in schools, and in clinical settings
    • Identify PTs/PTAs from underrepresented groups to mentor PT/PTA students and young professionals from those groups
    • Identify PTs/PTAs from underrepresented groups to mentor PT/PTA students and young professionals from those groups
    • Educate public about range and breadth of physical therapist practice: Provide education resources (tools, training, materials) for our membership to prompt them to share information with their patients (eNews, Social Media, conferences, districts)
