GeoBlue - students traveling abroad in 2024
To better safeguard Marquette students traveling abroad, OIE adopted a comprehensive insurance package, mandatory for all students studying abroad with academic programs or traveling under the auspices of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ until December 31, 2024. The insurance is offered through , a leading student international insurance provider.
- OIE will enroll students in GeoBlue for the dates of their study abroad program shortly prior to departure.
- A charge of $55 per 30-day period will be posted to the student’s Marquette Bursar Account (Checkmarq).
- Students who would like to extend their coverage pre- or post-program can do so directly on GeoBlue’s website. The price and coverage of the pre- and/or post-program insurance will vary from that of the Marquette plan.
- Insurance will not be waived, regardless of existing personal insurance coverage or country-specific insurance requirements, for continuity of health and safety response.
- GeoBlue does not cover students returning to their home country to study abroad.
- Some countries, like Australia and Canada for example, require students to purchase medical insurance through the government as part of the visa and entry requirements. While there is some overlap in coverage, the government policies do not provide all the required coverage, so both policies are required.

International SOS/Chubb - students traveling abroad in 2025 and beyond
To better safeguard Marquette students traveling abroad, OIE requires a comprehensive international insurance and assistance package which is mandatory for all students traveling abroad under the auspices of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ.
The following is applicable to students abroad on January 1, 2025 or later:
- OIE will automatically enroll students in the following for their official program dates
- Chubb/ACE American international health insurance,
- emergency international assistance and response (NOTE: Marquette's policy number is needed for access to the . Marquette policy numbers are given to students in the MU Global Portal and during the pre-departure orientation, but can also be requested from the Office of International Education)
- The policy covers seven days of personal deviation, but coverage cannot be extended beyond that.
- A charge will be applied to the student’s Checkmarq account that is dependent upon their program dates
- Short term = 4 weeks and under $50
- Short term = Between 4 weeks and 10 weeks $125
- Semester = $250
- Academic year = $500
- Insurance will not be waived, regardless of existing personal insurance coverage or country-specific insurance requirements, for continuity of health and safety response. To better safeguard faculty and staff traveling abroad, ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ provides a comprehensive international insurance and assistance package for all Marquette faculty and staff who have had their international travel abroad under the auspices of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ registered and approved through OIE.
The following is applicable to faculty and staff:
- Faculty and staff are automatically enrolled and covered by these plans for the dates of official approved university-related travel abroad
- Chubb/ACE American international health insurance,
- emergency international assistance and response (NOTE: Marquette's policy number is needed for access to the . Marquette policy numbers are given to faculty and staff upon travel registration approval, but can also be requested from the Office of International Education)
- The policy covers seven days of personal deviation, but coverage cannot be extended beyond that.
- Coverage is not available for international faculty or staff returning to their home country to conduct university-related business.

The insurance outlined above does not include trip cancellation. Participants interested in trip cancellation insurance should carefully evaluate in detail any plans that claim to cover cancellation for any reason.
