Fund raised from corporations, foundations, individuals and special events, including the AIDS Walk Wisconsin and 5K Run, help fund the cost of delivering care to people living with HIV, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay.

Position Description: Interns assist the special events team in achieving fundraising goals through special events planning and production. Further, interns provide fundraising support for recruiting participants, generating donations, and securing third party events.

Interns will gain professional experience as part of a dynamic and growing fundraising team. Working directly with ARCW Development Directors and Managers, interns will contribute directly to a variety of aspects of fundraising and special events, including:

  1. Assisting with events production for AIDS Walk Wisconsin & 5K Run, Make A Promise Gala and Auction, Wisconsin AIDS Ride, Jolly Holly Folly, CAMP Bingo, and other events around the state.
  2. Helping identify and secure commitments of participation or donation from individuals or corporate donors.
  3. Coordinating event participant and donor recruitment through initial contact and follow up communications.
  4. Assisting with managing event day logistics to coordinate and facilitate event setup and production.
  5. Performing office duties including answering telephone, checking voice mail, e-mailing, copying, filing, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in event planning, communication, marketing, or related field; experience in event planning is highly preferred.
  • Ability to type with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Windows operating system, and databases.
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License with reliable, insured vehicle.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated within team environment.

Compensation will vary with experience. Areas of focus include:

    1. Member Email Communication:

    • Weekly member communication
    • Send all emailed member communications from all departments.
    • All programming and event related emails.

    Job Overview: VISIT Milwaukee’s communications department is charged with increasing awareness of Milwaukee as a premier destination for meetings, conventions and leisure travel, through media contact resulting in a variety of trade and consumer editorial placements. The department also supplies content to various publications as well as writing copy to meet in-house needs.

    Additional departmental responsibilities include assisting in public relations counsel as needed by members and convention/meeting planners, public relations aid in coordinating in-house and outside special events/projects, and garnering local, regional and national support of the agency and its goal through a variety of public relations efforts. VISIT Milwaukee’s communications intern supports the communications function of the organization in several ways.

The Convention Services Department works with booked conventions and events to coordinate local convention logistics. Convention Services insures an exceptional Milwaukee experience and may assist the convention in many ways, from welcomes to transportation, hotel arrangements, meeting logistics, entertainment, dining and events. The Convention Service Managers connect conventions and their attendees with local businesses.

    Description of Duties:

    • Assist with client giveaway program, including inventory management and RFP process for vendors.
    • Assist with volunteer recruitment program.
    • Research opportunities for volunteer recruitment from Milwaukee higher education institutions.
    • Assist with research project regarding best practices in convention services procedures and programs at peer DMOs (Destination Management Organizations).

    Required education and experience:

    • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited academic institution with a major in business, communications, hospitality/event planning, or a related field.
    • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Prior customer service experience and hospitality industry experience preferred.

    Required skills, knowledge and abilities:

    • Experience in Microsoft Office 2016 Suite, databases, and aptitude to learn new programs/software.

    Job Overview: The Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce is seeking a Project & Events intern for the summer to work in our Milwaukee office. This individual should have an interest in working in an exciting and growing non-profit organization focused on growing LGBT-owned and allied businesses.

    The Project & Events Intern is responsible for helping with various Chamber projects, including outreach to prospective members, planning and staffing Chamber events large and small, general office support, and more.

    Responsibilities associated with an internship may include list management, member outreach and recruitment, writing projects, event planning and staffing, research, and various special projects as needed for the organization. During the summer, this will include helping staff and prepare for various Pride related events. Interns are eligible to receive school credit for the internship. The internship is unpaid.

    Qualified interns should:

    • Be dependable, detail-oriented, motivated, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
    • Have an interest in LGBT issues, nonprofit management, business, and/or communications.
    • Have strong writing, researching, and interpersonal skills.
    • Have reliable transportation to and from work.
    • Be available to work a minimum of 20 hours a week during the summer - thought full time is preferred (schedule is flexible between 9:00am and 5:00pm).
    • Be enrolled in a two or four year post-secondary degree program.
