Program Highlights

With our courses, students develop skills that give them a competitive edge in the workplace. Classes including modern data topics in Regression Analysis, Computational Probability, Statistical Simulation, Design of Scientific Experiments, and Statistical Machine Learning provide students with the know-how to succeed in various careers.

Along with our required courses, students also take a practicum course in Statistical Consulting, providing hands-on statistical consulting training. In turn, our program produces graduates who can deal with big data and perform statistical, risk factor and predictive analysis.

Full-time, dedicated students can complete the degree in as little as 12 months.

Who is this program suited for?

This program meets the needs for:

  • Recent graduates who are seeking a master’s degree program in applied statistics
  • Mid-career workers with a solid mathematics and/or statistics background who are seeking a graduate program either for career advancement or for a career change
  • Part-time evening study while working full-time

In addition to coursework, students also take a statistical consulting practicum course. The practicum is intended to give students practical, hands-on statistical consulting training. The MS in applied statistics program produces graduates who can deal with big data, perform statistical analysis to detect hidden patterns in data, perform risk factor analysis and perform predictive analysis.

Flexible Learning

We know finding time to earn your master's degree can be tough. That's why with our MS in applied statistics program, we work to fit your busy schedule. You can enroll in the program with full-time, part-time and evening courses.

Admission is not restricted to students with a mathematics degree. The only prerequisites are a sufficient formal mathematics and/or statistics background and previous experience with programming. This means those with an undergraduate degree in finance, economics, engineering and other similar degrees are an excellent fit for this program.

Admission Prerequisites

Admission to this program will be based on a sufficient formal mathematics and/or statistics background and a previous experience with programming. The applied statistics program can accommodate students from a wide variety of disciplines. These include undergraduate degrees in:

  • Mathematics
  • Statistics
  • Engineering
  • Economics
  • Finance

An undergraduate degree in the above fields is not necessary since the main criterion for admitting the students will be their ability to grasp complex mathematical ideas. A minimum mathematics requirement includes:

  • Two semesters of calculus
  • Additional higher level mathematics related courses

For example, a student with an undergraduate degree in economics and grades above B+ in calculus 1 and calculus 2 in addition to courses in economics and linear algebra may be suitable for the applied statistics program.

Applicable Careers

Typical careers with this degree include:

Our M.S. in applied statistics program is a STEM-designated program, which means international students are eligible to apply for 36 months of Optional Practical Training, allowing employers to potentially hire international students for up to three years instead of only one.
